Has anyone had any experience of a game called Diplomacy which is about the first world war? My boys played it recently with a group and are very keen to play again. I cant seem to find it in Whitcoulls.
Thanks Dale = have now got some info. Apparently you can actually buy it in specialist games shops. Its a great game. My kids played it last year at one of the school holiday camps in Auckland and have been pestering me ever since to get it.
My teenage son played Diplomacy at a school camp last year and enjoyed it, and I have played Play-By-EMail Diplomacy for a couple of years.
All you need to know about Diplomacy is here: http://www.diplom.org/index.py. Note that to play you really need 5 - 7 players (7 is best), and if you are allowing the standard 10-15 mins negotiation betwen each "turn", it can take 3-4 hours to complete a game.
I have now got the game. My goodness it was not Cheap so I am hoping it will prove a good investment. We were introduced to it in a group of very bright kids last April holidays. Some of them went back to their home town and started their own regular group but we have not been lucky enough to find enough people who are interested in doing so. Jack has looked at a couple of on line games though. Early dinner and first family game this evenig!
My oldest also played this game at a holiday seminars camp a year or two back and loved it. I noticed somewhere that the same people are now going into schools with those seminars (during school hours) and they are doing the game as part of their Anzac history seminar. But I think you have to book through your school. Should be good though.
